Pastor Steve Thompson

Pastor Steve and Gloria have served the Lord as a team since beginning their married life together nearly 40 years ago. They have faithfully shared the gospel and modeled the love of our Lord Jesus Christ in country and city churches. Pastor Steve and Gloria are originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia. They have three grown, married sons and four grandchildren. Pastor Steve is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Gloria is a graduate of Leigh Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. They have lived in Jacksonville and served at Crown Point Baptist Church for the past 18 years. Pastor Steve has a heart to see the lost come to faith in Jesus Christ and the redeemed to grow in God’s grace. Additionally, he serves the Lord and our country as a chaplain with the Florida Air National Guard. His life’s verse is Colossians 3:17, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” Gloria retired from nursing a few years ago and is fully engaged in encouraging and mentoring the ladies in our church family. She leads our church’s various prayer ministries. Her life’s verse is from Nehemiah 8:10, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Stephen Flint - Youth Minister

Pastor Stephen has been working with teens as a Youth Pastor for a combined total of 7 years. Youth Pastor Stephen’s goal has been to show teens that God is real, that He is relevant, and that He is to be revered. Youth Pastor Stephen is a native of Jacksonville, FL where he met his wife Rebecca while attending Trinity Baptist College. Rebecca, who is originally from Thomaston, Georgia (Lord forgive her!) gave birth to their first child, Chandler, in November of 2009. Stephen is currently a student at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Rebecca is busy working part-time while raising a baby full-time (Or is it two babies?). Youth Pastor Stephen’s desire is to raise up generations of youth that will be transformed through salvation, trained in the Word of God, and are transmitters the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world starting with their own circles of influence.

Patty Jones - Music Ministries Director

Patty is a Jacksonville native. She has been a Music Ministries Director at various area churches for 20+ years. Patty gave her life to Christ on July of 1979 and it has been her desire to serve Him through the ministry of music ever since. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Jacksonville University with a degree in Music Education. She is also an accomplished soloist and a member of the Contemporary Christian Group - "One Hope". She is married to Chris, her husband of 17+ years, and they have two children, Jordan and Zach. Her life verse is Psalm 104: 33 & 34 - "I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. May my meditation be pleasing to Him, as I rejoice in the Lord."

Dori Bennett - Children's Director

Dori and Jim have been married for thirty five years, have two children and four grandchildren. Jim is a marketing specialist with Advantage Sales Corporation and has been with his company since our family relocated to Jacksonville in 1998. With a great love for others, especially children, Dori has served as our Children's Director for over nine years. With a background in early childhood development, Dori’s desire is to partner with parents in bringing little ones to Jesus. Having recently retired from the Federal Reserve where she was a member of the Support Services Division, she now has the opportunity to devote herself fully to the ministry and her family. Dori’s life verse is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Be joyful always, pray continually and give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Ellen Ferris - Preschool Director

Ellen has served as the Preschool Director at Crown Point Baptist Church since April 2008. She loves teaching the children about Jesus! Ellen has had the opportunity to serve in her church's children departments since she was a teenager and feels that God has blessed her with a heart for the little ones. Ellen had a home based childcare service for 12 years in Virginia Beach, VA. Ellen and her husband Lee have 1 daughter, 2 sons and 3 grandchildren. Lee actively serves in the Sound Ministry at our church. Ellen’s life verse is Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope.” Lee’s life verse is Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates His own love towards us, in that we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Mitch Etheridge - Associate Pastor Emeritus

Mitch & Margaret Etheridge faithfully served the Lord at CPBC from 1984 until relocating to Virginia in August, 2008. For almost 25 years they made a difference for Jesus Christ in nearly every area of our church’s life! Margaret’s ministry included serving on various committees and ministry teams. Her greatest joy, however, was working with children. She loved and taught them in Sunday School, Children’s Church, missions programs, Vacation Bible School and in preschool ministries. Mitch taught Sunday School and a host of discipleship training classes. He served as a deacon, including Chairman of the Deacons, until he was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel and began serving on our church’s staff as Associate Pastor. Mitch loved to teach and preach, but his real passion was visitation. Mitch and Margaret are currently serving the Lord as a Transitional Pastor and Pastor’s Wife in Hurt, Virginia.
